A Study: Optimum Lighting for Plant Walls

Xicato has sponsored a new independent study, Optimum Lighting of Plant Walls, and has made the research and results available in a CIBSE accredited CPD Course.

Who:

Designed by Dr. Amardeep Dugar, Lighting Research and Design, and in conjunction with Professor Peter Raynham, University College London and David Gilbey, NDY Light, this study explores two specific goals: lighting that results in healthy plants needing minimum maintenance and with the perception of the most visual appeal. Xicato, Wonderwall, and Lumenpulse Alphaled supplied the LED light sources, plant walls and luminaires.

What:

Three plant walls were each illuminated for five months by luminaires containing full spectrum LED modules with different spectral power distributions / correlated color temperatures: 3000K, 4000K and 5600K ('daylight') from Xicato's Artist Series portfolio. Plant health was assessed quantitatively alongside visual qualitative assessments from over 100 participants, all from the field of lighting design and architecture.
